Every so often a wedding day just clicks. The people are warm, the light shows up on time, the details all mean something, and you spend the whole thing grinning behind the camera. That was Elizabeth and Jacob at Lakewood Ranch Golf and Country Club.

If you have not been out to Lakewood Ranch, it sits about twenty minutes east of Sarasota, and the country club looks like someone airlifted an Italian villa into Florida and wrapped it in palm trees and golf. Big arches, marble columns, a spiral staircase that begs to be photographed. Elizabeth and Jacob leaned all the way into it, dressed the day in blue and white, and let the good stuff happen.

The Little Things

I always tell couples that the details are where the day starts breathing. Elizabeth had these His and Hers vow books set out before anyone was even dressed, and I will admit I spent a little too long on the invitation suite. In my defense, it had a wax seal. I am powerless against a wax seal.

Jacob's side kept it classic. A good watch, the wedding band, and an ace of spades that I did not ask about but fully respect. Across the room, Elizabeth's dress hung in the window catching that soft Florida morning light.

Getting Ready

The getting ready hours are usually my favorite stretch of the morning. It is quiet, everyone is together, and the nerves and the excitement run at the exact same time. Elizabeth got ready with her people close by, and the moment with her mom is one I keep coming back to.

First Looks

There were three first looks, and every single one of them got me.

Dad went first. I do not think he made it three seconds before the tears showed up.

Her brother went next, and he did not stand a chance either.

Then Jacob. Elizabeth came down the clubhouse hallway, all columns and warm light, and he turned around to a face he gets to look at for the rest of his life.

The Ceremony

They said their vows outside, right on the lawn that opens up over the golf course and the water. There is something about an open Florida sky sitting behind a couple that never gets old to me. The floral arch framed them, the lake stayed still, and the whole thing felt easy in the best possible way.

And then they were married, heading back up the aisle to a crowd that was very much losing it.

A Few Words About the Venue

If you found this post because you are thinking about getting married here, let me save you some scrolling. Lakewood Ranch Golf and Country Club is a 44,000 square foot clubhouse built in that old Italian villa style, with marble columns and graceful arches around nearly every corner, a grand ballroom, and a spiral staircase that photographs beautifully. Three championship golf courses roll out behind it, so your portrait options basically go on forever. And it sits minutes from downtown Sarasota and the white sand at Siesta Key, which makes it an easy yes for guests who want to turn your wedding into a whole weekend.

My favorite spot on the property is the ivy covered archway. Tuck a couple inside it, let the light come through, and you get something that feels classic and a little bit secret garden.

Golden Hour

If you book me, you are going to hear me talk about golden hour, probably more than once. It is the fifteen or so minutes near sunset when everything turns warm and soft and a little unreal. We slipped away from the reception, walked out toward the course, and the sky did exactly what I was hoping it would.

The Party

Back inside, the ballroom was ready and the dance floor did not stay empty for long. Navy linens, big florals, and that grand staircase turning a simple walk downstairs into an entrance. Elizabeth and Jacob cut the cake, opened up the dance floor, and handed the night over to their people.
